Selection of air pipe valves for water treatment aeration tanks
Project Name:
Nanchuan Industrial Park Wastewater Treatment Plant Project
Process Location:
Membrane integrated workshop aeration tank air pipe switch valve, DN450, PN10
Customer Feedback:
- Pneumatic valve leakage
- Valve internal leakage
- Cylinder failure
After our after-sales engineers arrived on site, a field investigation revealed the following issues:
- The valve on site is operating at a high frequency, once every 10 seconds
- The solenoid valve is installed far from the pneumatic valve
- The air source pressure is low, about 3~4 bar
After disassembling and replacing parts, the customer's reported problems are analyzed as follows:
1. Customer issue: pneumatic valve leakage
The solenoid valves are concentrated on the manifold, far from the pneumatic valve. Pressure attenuation and leakage cause the pneumatic valve's signal air pressure to be unable to fully open the internal spring, resulting in the pneumatic valve still working but supplying air to the cylinder while venting. After investigation, it was found that there was indeed a leak in the pipe joint. After resealing, the pipe was reconnected.
However, due to the distance between the pneumatic valve and the solenoid valve, the problem of signal air pressure attenuation still exists. We suggested two points: one is to increase the air supply pressure, and the other is to remove the solenoid valve and install it close to the valve. However, the customer did not adopt either suggestion, and we have explained the risks to the customer.
2. Valve internal leakage
The medium is gas, and the valve operates at a high frequency. The project has been running for four or five months, so it is necessary to consider changing the selection. The change plan and price have been notified to the sales department. After the sales department communicated with the customer, the customer's technical department stated that it needs to be discussed and studied.
3. Cylinder failure
After disassembly by our company, it was found that one cylinder had broken teeth due to high-frequency operation
Four centerline butterfly valves had shaft breakage problems
Our company considers that if centerline butterfly valves are still used, the valve stem of the DN450 valve should be thickened or a harder material should be used.
However, considering this working condition comprehensively, double eccentric butterfly valves should be used. Since the customer's pipes are all made of 304 stainless steel, replacing them with all-304 double eccentric butterfly valves and high-frequency small fork cylinders is too expensive, so the modification plan needs to be confirmed with the customer.
After internal communication with the customer, the final solution is for the customer to change the control method, reduce the valve switching frequency, and our company will thicken the shaft head and change the material to SS431.
