Low-load butterfly valve low leakage solution

The client uses our company's low-load butterfly valve to regulate the air volume in the heating furnace pipeline of a steel plant. The medium is nitrogen. The pipe diameters are DN40 and DN125. According to the on-site measured data, under the condition of 6KPa pressure, when the DN40 valve is fully open, the nitrogen flow rate is 43m³/h, and when the valve is fully closed, the nitrogen flow rate is 24m³/h. The leakage rate exceeds 50%. According to the calculation of 3% leakage, the flow rate when the valve is fully closed should not exceed 1.3m³/h.

Detailed description

Operating Condition Description: The customer uses our company's low-load butterfly valve to regulate the air volume in the heating furnace pipeline of a steel plant. The medium is nitrogen. The pipeline diameters are DN40 and DN125. According to the on-site measured data, under the pressure of 6 KPa, when the DN40 valve is fully open, the nitrogen flow rate is 43 m³/h, and when the valve is fully closed, the nitrogen flow rate is 24 m³/h. The leakage rate exceeds 50%. Based on a leakage rate of 3%, the flow rate when the valve is fully closed should not exceed 1.3 m³/h.

According to the photos provided on-site, the gap at the shaft hole of our valve is large, resulting in no effective sealing at this location, which will cause a large valve leakage.

Improvement Suggestions:

Scheme 1: The valve body still adopts the current retaining ring form, but the retaining ring needs to be lengthened, and the gap with the valve shaft should be minimized to prevent some customers from having special requirements for the leakage rate on-site.

Scheme 2: For diameters ≤ DN300, the sealing surface can be processed on the valve body itself. This can save the time and cost of welding the retaining ring and ensure the effective sealing of the valve.

The above improvement schemes can solve the leakage problem and make the valve structure more aesthetically pleasing.
